4th MUICA African Film Festival 2021-2022

During the month of May, African Film Festival MUICA 2021 returns to Colombia in its 4th edition.
Initially planned with seven locations in the country scheduled for the month of May, MUICA strentghens and diversifies its virtual program, and postpones its physical activities until viewers can enjoy this festival of African cinema in venues and projection spaces safely.
Following the trend of art festivals in times of ReXistance, MUICA 2021 presents an edition with virtual events on social media and free online screenings through the platform Boonet.co.
In 2021 and 2022, over several months, adapting to the challenges brought by the pandemic, MUICA takes an intercontinental journey through the urban pulse of Nigeria and the Somali desert, passing through the rebirth of cinema in Sudan and the unexpected stories that emerge from a karate dojo and a South African boxing ring. MUICA also travels back in time, presenting two classics of African cinema in their restored versions and navigates towards Afrofuturism and magical realism. In this fourth edition, the voices of MUICA raise for social resistance and diversity, with the essential presence of the voices of the African diaspora in Latin America.
28 films about Africa and its diaspora open a window to a vast and diverse continent, both in its social realities and in its artistic expressions. During the month of African heritage in Colombia, MUICA and its activities will take place cinemas, cultural centres, libraries, schools and in the urban periphery, in seven locations of the country, as well as in the virtual space. The cinematic agenda will be enriched with conversations, debates and panel discussions, a photographic exhibition and Afrofuturistic experiences, closing the month with an online concert celebrating Africa Day.
The programme includes premieres and audio-visual works that are exhibited for the first time in Colombia, in our usual menu of three sections: Made in Africa, exclusively curated with stories by African creatives; Diaspora, showcasing stories from Afro-descendants in the world; and, finally, Other Views, with co-productions and external perspectives immersed in the African universe.
We consolidate our alliance with the Colombian streaming platform www.boonet.co to present screenings throughout the month of May, from Friday to Sunday, free of charge. These events are accompanied by a rich programme of panel discussions and events that touch on topics of the cultural and cinematographic cultural landscape in Africa that will be seen on our social networks.
On behalf of Fundación Otro Sur, we welcome you to this fourth meeting with Africa and its diaspora.
